Yoga
I teach yoga in Tilehurst and Purley On Thames. Yoga is a great way to develop mobility, balance and strength whilst also calming the nervous system and reducing stress.
I believe that everyone can experience the benefits of yoga, and I make all my classes as inclusive as possible by offering lots of options for students to explore what feels good for them in their body.
Vinyasa yoga offers the optimum for both physical development and stress reduction. Vinyasa yoga is a great way to develop a skilful movement practice as the flow is always different, challenging the body in new ways whilst simultaneously allowing students to work on familiar movement patterns to progress in a safe and sequential manner. Classes always end with techniques known to up-regulate the parasympathetic (rest/digest/recovery) branch of the nervous system, encouraging relaxation and stress relief.
1:1 Yoga Sessions
I offer individualised yoga instruction and programming. Whether you want to achieve a certain pose, improve your mobility, strength and balance, or establish a relaxation and mindfulness practice, I can work with you to reach your goals. I design bespoke sequences to accommodate an individual's abilities, preferences and objectives. These sequences are programmed to build upon one another for incremental progression.
While the physical benefits of yoga are what first brought me to the practice, I have developed a deep interest in and respect for the mental, emotional and spiritual benefits of yoga as well; however, as a yoga teacher I am far more likely to programme a sequence around what will improve strength, balance, mobility, your nervous system response and mindfulness-building rather than programming around something more esoteric, for example, a chakra body. Similarly, I offer nutrition advice based on scientific-backed findings rather than ayurveda. Whilst I do weave elements of the 8 limbs of yoga into my classes, my teaching approach is more centred on improvements to muscular endurance, mobility, balance and nervous system modulation (reducing stress). I'm happy to discuss the gunas and your dosha, but yogic philosophy is on the periphery of my programming.
Yoga definitely has physical, emotional, mental and spiritual benefits, and the best way to discover what those benefits are for yourself is to engage in regular practice. I can help design and guide that regular practice.
